Flexible, decentralised access control for smart buildings with smart contracts

Large commercial buildings are complex cyber-physical systems containing expensive and critical equipment that ensure the safety comfort of their numerous occupants. Yet occupant visitor access to spaces within these still managed through unsystematic, inefficient, human-intensive processes. As a standard practice, long-term building occupants given privileges rooms based on organizational roles, while visitors have be escorted by hosts. This approach is conservative inflexible. In this paper, we describe methodology can flexibly securely manage for short-term alike, taking into account risk associated with accessing each space building. Our relies blockchain smart contracts describe, grant, audit, revoke fine-grained permissions visitors, in decentralized fashion.
